“How do you get to sing in the Carnegie Hall?” “Practice! Practice! Practice!”, writes Judy Williams (Alto) our Vice-President.
It was last year while we were rehearsing Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man that my good friend and choir junkie Robyn Blainey asked me if I was interested in going to New York City in 2015 to perform Jenkins’ new work, The Peacemakers.
Our journey involved many hours of practice while we rehearsed with the Macquarie University Singers for 3 months in preparation for their concert in November. Without that experience I doubt we would have followed through. There were also three days of intense rehearsal workshops in Manhattan and a dress rehearsal at the Carnegie Hall itself.
Finally, on January 19th, Robyn, Emilia Saez, and I were the only Aussie singers joining choirs and musicians from all over the world to perform this wonderful work (in the presence of Karl Jenkins) on the Ronald O. Perelman Stage in the Isaac Stern Auditorium in Carnegie Hall. It was truly a thrilling experience and worth all the hard work!
