Planning is at an advanced stage for M W Choir concerts in 2018.
The concerts will be held on:
- Saturday May 5th,
- Sunday August 26th and
- Saturday /Sunday December 1st and 2nd.
The programme for the May concert will be all Mozart. In the first half, the Choir will sing Regina Coeli, Kyrie in D minor and Ave Verum Corpus, with the Orchestra playing a symphony such as No 25, which was featured in the film Amadeus. The second half will be Mozart’s final work, the Requiem.
The August concert, Songs and Sonnets, will feature the Choir with a small instrumental ensemble such as piano, violin and double bass. There will be two longer choral works, one of which will be a suite of songs from Bernstein’s West Side Story, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Bernstein’s birth on the previous day. Other choral pieces will be interspersed with instrumental and vocal solos.
In December, it will be time for a performance of Handel’s Messiah, which we last sang in 2014. Do you remember the torrential rain and the fire alarm disrupting the performance on the Saturday evening? We hope for no repeat in 2018! However, to add some interest to singing something we know well, we intend to add some of the lesser known items, and to sing a number of choruses from memory.
It promises to be another great year of music making.
NB. Although the dates are fixed, it may be necessary to change details of the programmes during the year.
